Why is human skin waterproof when theres holes all over it?

They are called Pores and they do not go all the way through to the inside.

And technically skin is not water proof, We can and do absorb some water through our skin, just like we loose water through our skin, IE Sweat.

Why is human skin waterproof when theres holes all over it?
That's funny...

The skin isn't there to keep water out...

It is there to protect the muscle...

I really am not sure if the pores go through to the other side (I don't think they do)...but the body isn't trying to keep water out...it is trying to keep dust, and impurities out...and keep muscle, blood and veins, and organs in.
Reply:those holes (pores) close up at some point :)
Reply:Because those "holes" are so tiny, very little water is able to absorb into our body. Believe it or not, we are not waterproof. Our skin absorbs moisture from the air and on it all the time.
Reply:The body normally secretes oil, which fills the holes. The oil can attract dirt, and too much oil and dirt can lead to acne, especially among teens.

If your skin is too dry, it can crack, and bacteria can come in, and blood can even leak out.

Dieting cuts down on the supply of oil that the body can excrete, so hand lotion and body lotion are sometimes needed. This fact is noted even in bible, where those who fast are commanded to put oil on themselves.
Reply:I remember Sean Connery playing James Bond in the movie'

Goldfinger. In it was a girl covered all over with gold paint. At

that time, the question was asked: How can her skin breath

and she stay alive if covered in paint. The answer was that

they left a section of her back unpainted which didn't show to

allow breathing. there is the reason for the "holes."

The oil in our skin makes us waterproof.
